Welcome to Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks Kick-Off Blog Tour

I’m honored to once again have a block featured in

Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks from Today’s Top Designers Volume 6!!!

It’s a new issue with 100 more original blocks complete with full instructions.

I submitted this block last spring when I was knee-deep in preparations with

my new “Baby Love” book.

We all have opportunities to sew quilts for babies at some point in time.

I can see so many possibilities with this block.

Make just one block and have a cute center focal point.

By adding a few borders to this block, it can quickly make a small baby quilt or wall hanging.

If a more generous size quilt is what you’re after,

make 5 “Baby” blocks and set them with 4, 12″ coordinating fabric squares to make this 42″ baby quilt.

As you know, the possibilities are endless.

Of course there is a give-away!

To enter to win a free copy of the new 100 Blocks Volume 6,

go UP, UP, UP to the TOP of this post and leave a comment letting me know how many baby quilts you’ve sewn so far.

If you’d like a chance to win a pattern of your choice from my website

Subscribe to my blog and leave me another comment telling me which of my patterns you would like to win.

If you’re already a subscriber let me know that in your comment along with your favorite pattern choice.

Two winners will be drawn for a free pattern.

Respond before midnight Tuesday to win the drawings,

and don’t forget to leave your email address.

Please visit the other bloggers this week, by going to Quiltmaker’s blog for the complete list.

There are lots of great prizes all week long.

Thanks for stopping by & good luck!

Until next time,

Susan

  1. I love your block! But I have to confess, I have never finished a baby quilt, though I started one for my second child. Now that my kids are older, I have time to learn to sew! Inhave sent away blocks for charity sewn baby quilts though….

  2. 1 baby quilt for me…The size is too constricting…bigger is better! :) The smallest quilts I make are for double beds.

  3. I’ve made 6, three for my own daughters, one for a friend’s baby, and two for my grandson. Of course the grandbaby gets two…it’s my job to spoil him! :-)

  4. I have made so many baby quilts I can’t count them. I do a lot of baby quilts for charity. I am also accumulating baby quilts for future great grandchildren.

  5. I have sewed four baby quilts. One day children grows up so I prefer larger quilts which could be use longer time. Most my quilts use my babies.

  6. I have made to many baby quilts to count. My Mom is in a nursing home and there is always an employee there pregnant. i make each one a baby quilt as a thank you for taking care of my Mom.

  7. Hmm, I’ve made about 4 baby quilts. I’ve really not had many reasons to do so until lately when all the young gals I work with are starting their families.
I already subscribe to your newsletter! I love a lot of your patterns but am truly smitten by “Mittens On The Line”.
Thanks for a chance at the give-away! I love “100 Blocks”!

  8. I have only made 1 baby quilt, and that was before I really started quilting–I started it when my college roommate got pregnant, worked on it when I was pregnant with my first son, and finished it when I was pregnant with my second son–I think it was over 10 years in the making!

  9. I’m guessing here, but I’d say I’ve made at least 50 baby quilts, I like to donate to a local shelter. Thanks.

  10. I have made quite a few baby quilts over the years. I would guess 40 to 50. I was a teacher and made one for fellow teachers when they became parents and also for those who were becoming grandparents for the first time. Congrats on having your cute block included in this issue.

  11. I love your sweet block. I have lost count on how many baby quilts I have made. More than a dozen I would think. Thanks for the chance to win.

  19. I LOVE this block! I can imagine many future baby projects using it. I love all your designs! I have lost count of how many baby quilts I have made. I will have to say more than 10 but less than 30.

  20. Cute block Susan. Since I started sewing again in late 2003, I have made about three baby quilts for friends although I’m a very bad Grandma and not one of those quilts were made for any of my own Grandchildren. I really need to do that very soon!

  21. I think I’ve only made 2…and remade 1! I put new backing on my daughter’s baby quilt for her 21st birthday…it had worn out!

  22. I have made to many baby quilts to count !! I am a follower, love the In season for winter pattern , and name that quilt book ! looks like much fun.

  23. How many baby quilts? Oh wow, that got me to thinking…35? 45? hmm….let’s just say a whole lot….cute block you designed for the magazine….it has my creative juices flowing…..thanks

  24. I know I was a follower of your blog before, but to double check I clicked the Follow button and entered my email and it didn’t say I was already subscribed which was weird. But, either way, I am for sure once again although I haven’t seen the email that comes after subscribing.

Anyway, I have many of your patterns on my wish list. First I have to say your book “Toddler Town” is AWESOME!!! That is now at the top of my list of those I want to buy from you. After that book which is my most favorite of all, the patterns I like most are the Flowers on the Vine and Garden Trellis Quilt. Those are both great for different reasons. I think I’d have to decide if I am lucky enough to win which one I’d choose since I’m sure that book isn’t going to qualify.

  25. I have made four or five baby quilts. Nothing makes me happier than seeing the babies growing up and dragging around my quilts! Congrats on getting into another 100 blocks edition.

  26. I have made maybe 5 baby quilts so far! My favorite is one my Aunt’s 97 year old mother in law made for me for my oldest son! A nine patch pieced and quilted by hand! She didn’t even wear glasses!!

  27. love your blocks. i have made 3 baby quilts to date. each one a new learning experience. congrats on being published

  28. Congratulations for getting your block in Quiltmakers 100 Blocks #6. I am new to quilting and am looking for blocks that would be easy for me to make. I think a baby quilt would be the perfect thing to do and the one with the cute center focal point would be great. Thanks for the chance to win.

  29. I lost count of the number of baby quilts I have made through the years, my guess is 50+. Congrats and thanks for a chance to win.

  30. Lately I have made 6, not sure how many over the years. Thanks for the chance and the great block!

  31. How many baby quilts? My daughter had 5 — I have made 18 for my cousins children – and one of their babies. friends baby quilts — about another 20 — another 15 or so for different activities. So total so far about 58 or so. quick and easy! Thanks for sharing.

  32. I love your pattern Old Glory in Mini Applecore. I am making donation quilts for soldiers thru Quilts of Valor and this would make a great addition to my donation quilts.

  33. Oh my gosh, I don’t even know if I can say for sure the exact number of baby quilts I’ve made. It has to be in the 30’s or 40 range. Loved making everyone of them. Congrats on your sweet block.

  34. I have made several over the years, but only 2 recently. I went to Houston last week, too, for the Quilt Festival. Lots of pretties. Love everything using alphabets.

  35. I really do not know how many baby quilts I have made so far. But I have two more to make for Great-Grandbabies due in February and April. Love your block and the possibilites it gives.

  36. VERY cute block! I’ve made many baby quilts for the gals in my church, and I have also made them for the babies in intensive care hospital units. Nothing like a snuggle from a quilt to bring warmth and healing.

  37. I have made over 40 baby quilts. One or sometimes 2 for each of my 10 grandchildren and I make them for an organization called Quilts for Kids. I love to make them because they are small enough for me to FMQ.

  38. Goodness….I’ve made sew many baby quilts I lost count many years ago!! This block would be great to use in my next one! Thanks sew much for this chance to win :-)

  41. I’ve finished two baby quilts, and have another two in progress (I’m new)! Congratulations on being a repeat submitter to QM!

  42. I have made about 15 baby quilts over the years and am in the process of planning another new one for the middle of next year.

  43. have only made 2 baby quilts so far (not a lot of babies in my family). love your cute little baby block and seeing all the different ways to showcase your block.

  44. I have made several baby quilts – too many to count! (Gave one to a friend once for her niece’s baby and she took credit for having made it! That’ll teach me to label my work.) Looks like I have another to make now – new grandchild on the way, too.

  45. I have one baby quilt partially made – the top is complete but it needs to be quilted. It is for my nephew – who is also my godson – for his first baby.

  46. Do the baby quilts have to be finished to be counted? ;-> I’ve actually finished 4, but I have another top completed. It will be a gift for my great niece, who just turned 1. It was SUPPOSED to be a welcome to the world gift, but I’m a little late…..

  47. Love the block! Love your pattern designs also! Congrats on being a part of the publication! I have made 4 baby quilts!

  48. I make tons of baby quilts–3 or 4 at a time, every 4 weeks! Occasionally, I take a break and do an artsy quilt for me. Love this block, and will have to give a go–I’m always looking for baby quilt ideas!

  49. Love your baby block. It’s so simple but just perfect for a baby quilt. I have made over a dozen baby quilts for my grandkids, family, and friends. I also make baby and children’s quilts for our local children’s home. Thanks for a chance to win.

  50. I’ve finished three baby quilts, and working on two more as we speak. I’m in a bit of a baby mode too, because two coworkers just had their babies and their quilts are the ones I’m working on. shhhhh!

  51. I have finished 3 baby quilts and am working on my fourth right now. I spent about a week drawing what I wanted. Now I am in the piecing stage. I have to have it done by Nov.18th. Your block is very cute, love the colors of the fabrics.

  52. Lovely block, I have done 7 or 8 baby quilts, for relatives and coworkers. really enjoy baby quilts, choosing fabric with interesting themes to get the baby to focus on individual blocks.

  53. I am a beginner quilter & just finished my first project, a wall hanging. I would love to use this as my first baby quilt. Thanks for the chance.

  54. Your block is precious. So far I’ve made 6 baby quilts. I would love to win a copy of Quiltmakers 100 blocks, Vol. 6.

  55. This block and Baby quilt is wonderful and looks like it could be a fairly last minute project if yuou needed to change the colors. I am eager to get started on one. I would guess it would probably be at least number 12 in my baby quilt category. I forgot to start keeping track until I had done several.

  56. I’ve made about 15 baby quilts so far. They are fast and very satisfying to make! I can even wrestle them under my machine and do the quilting myself.

  57. I’ve made 5 baby quilts,4 for great-grandchildren and one for a great-nephew. didn’t quilt when my children were young, but am enjoying it now.

  58. I’ve only made 2 baby quilts so far. I love how you used letters on your blocks. That seems to be a popular trend right now! I’m already a follower!

  59. I’ve been quilting baby quilts for over 5 years as part of a Charity Group, so there is no way I can count them all. But since our 1st grandchild was born 2-1/2 years ago, I can say he has more than enough to keep him warm for all winter.

  60. I haven’t made any baby quilts yet. I’m just a beginner quilter (and if there was a baby to make a quilt for I’d learn to quilt with a baby quilt but there isn’t) so maybe one day. :)

  61. I have made four baby quilts–my very first one is still being appliqued many years after it was started, so I do quicker patterns now! your block is adorable.

  62. I think I’m at 35 baby quilts so far… and if i finish all the ones in pieces in my craft room… I’ll be at 40 by Christmas.

  63. I’m still new at this, so no official baby quilt, but put together a quilt from some pink and purple scraps and thinking of giving it to a friend who is having a little girl soon.

  64. Love the block. I guess I have made about 20 baby quilts so far.. I’m currently working on a little boy quilt .

  65. I’m new to quilting, have only made 3 items, a sofa quilt, a table runner and a baby quilt that I designed myself. I’m currently working on sketching animals for applique baby quilts. Can’t wait to get one started!

  66. I’ve made only 3 baby quilts but I love the block you published. Congratulations! Thanks for sharing & for the chance to win.

  67. Just signed up to follow your blog! Id like to have the pattern for the Shaker Ladder Quilt. I’m very curious about trying quilting as you go, and I’ve been looking into patterns for some jelly rolls I have lying in wait.

  68. Cute block! As my children and their friends are starting families, I have lost count of how many baby quilts I’ve made. Maybe I need to make some ahead to have on hand since they all seem to be having babies at the same time!

  69. I have probably made about 10 baby quilts and am starting up again as most of my friends are becoming grandmas.

  70. I’ve made one baby quilt and have plans for another. But I also made an I Spy quilt for little ones, so maybe that could count, too. Baby Love is so cute. It’s adorable.

  71. I would guess that I have made around 20 baby quilts in the 4 years I’ve been quilting. I love your block and your ideas on how to use it. Thanks for the chance to win a copy of this great magazine.

  72. Since I started quilting I’ve only made 2 baby quilts – the last one was for my niece’s first baby last year. I love baby quilts but alas we don’t have many babies in our future anymore.

  73. I’ve made quilts for each of my 21 grandchildren, but actual, (what I call) baby quilts…three. I even made a matching diaper bag to coordinate with my first baby quilt.

  74. Your “Baby” block is too cute. I couldn’t begin guess how many baby quilts I’ve made. Project Linus ended up with many of them throughtout my quilting years. Thanks for an opportunity to win QM 100 Blocks Vol 6.

  75. I have made at least 12 baby quilts and due to make another one for my daughter’s friend who is due early Feb. Thanks for a chance to win the next volume for my quilting library.

  76. I am now a follower and will be checking your site. Baby quilts are high on my list as my nieces and nephews start their families. Congrats on you winning block. Thanks for the chance to win one of your patterns…hard to pick which one I like best. Will go with Name that Quilt as have several toddlers who are out growing the baby quilts I made them several years ago. Know they would love one with their name on it.

  77. I’ve lost count of the number of baby quilts I have made over the forty plus years that I have been quilting. They are always appreciated and it is fun to try different patterns. Yours is added to my “to do” list.

  78. I’ve only done about three baby quilts so far. Not around a lot of young ones yet. But looking for that in the future.

  79. I made my first baby blanket for my first child 39 years ago but it wasn’t a quilt. I made blankets for each of my daughters and grandchildren, but didn’t start quilting until four years ago (and they were past babyhood by then). Since I started quilting, I’ve made two charity baby quilts, and have the top finished for a quilt for my great-grandson to give for Christmas.

  80. I have no idea how many baby quilts I’ve made–lots and lots. Probably 60 or so. I make them for “Linus” I love this block. It’s so cute!

  81. I haven’t made a lot of baby quilts yet, but my kids’ friends are now getting married and hopefully the babies will start coming soon and I’ll get lots more chances to make baby quilts!

  82. I’ve made 5 baby quilts so far this year. I’ve made quite a few through the years. In 2006, my daughter and I were fortunate to go on a Motherland tour to South Korea. Through generous donations of blocks, fabric, and even tops, we were able to take many quilts to the baby hospital and foster mothers there.

  83. I am a new follower of your blog! I am really excited, you have some really great stuff going on! I can’t hardly pick a pattern, I truly would love to win any of them. I really liked the Charmed Jelly Roll Quilt and Flowers on the Vine!

  84. I am a relatively new quilter, completing a few projects for friends and relatives, but no baby quilts yet! I hope to have that occasion soon. Thanks for the chance to win and congratulations on your cute block!

  85. I just started following your blog — and went to your website and checked out all your patterns. They are great! I think I would like to try one that is ‘quilt as you go’ — and since I like them all, I would be happy with any of them.
So I hope you pick me!

  86. Your “baby” block is my favorite. I’m not an experienced applique-er but I would like to make a quilt with this block!!

  87. Your block is so cool and I like the way you can make just one and have a quilt or make more and have a larger baby quilt! I am a follower and your Name that Quilt book looks awesome – I’ll have to put that on my Christmas list!!! Your Toddler Town is too cute and the timing would be perfect for my second grandchild due in May!!! Thank you for the opportunity to win the book and your pattern!!

  88. Oh that is fun!! I think I have made 5 or 6 baby quilts so far..and I am always looking for something new and wonderful to make!! Your design is terrific!! Thanks for all the ideas on what to do with it. :)
    Michelle H

  89. I subscribed to your blog…yay!!…and I love Name that Quilt and also the Back to School one…(teacher!!). So cute!!

  90. Love the block and the variety of patterns you showed for using it. I’ve made 6 baby quilts. The best were group quilts for co-worker’s babies (2). When my son was born I wasn’t a quilter but by the time my niece and nephews were born, I enjoyed quilting for them.

  91. I’ve made a few dozen baby quilts for family, friends and charity and quilted dozens of others for my customers.

  92. I have only made 5 baby quilts. I have a lot of baby quilt projects that I have started I just have not completed them yet.

  93. I like your block; I am new to your site it has some great quilt patterns; I really like the Silent Night Pattern.
So far I have made 6 baby quilts in the two years I’ve been quilting. I started with my grandchildren; then my daughters freinds started hinting to her that a baby quilt made by me would be great shoer gifts. So it has begun to be a tradition that I make one for each of her friends when the time comes.

  94. I have made 6 baby quilts, with 3 more in the works, and countless “taggie blankets completed and on their way.

  95. I have forgotten how many baby quilts I have sewn. I have made one for each of my grandchildren when they were born {10} and several others to take on missions trips. Thanks for a chance to win and the ideas.

  96. I have made a baby quilt for most of my nieces and nephews and my kids and grand-kids. I made at least 20. Thanks for the chance to win.

  97. I never knew my grandchildren as babies, so I only got to make one quilt for them, but I made one to send with the others I sent to Japan after the tsunami. I’m making toddler quilts now.

  98. I ahve been a quilter for 25 years so the count of baby quilt is over 100. I have 18 grandchildren and relatives and friends have babys. i sew one premie quilt ebery month for the hospitals in Winston Salem a project that our guild has commited to. It really is fune and your block is perfect for those.

  99. I just subscribed to your blog. I love the Bunnies in the Grass, but I also like the Cars in the Road alot, too. It would be great to win either!

  100. Now that I think about it I think I have only made 2 baby quilts. Mostly make bed and lap size. Thanks for the chance to win.

  101. Every one at one point or another in their life time has to make at least one baby quilt (At least all the quilters…) Haven’t made any yet, but I am thinking that within the next 5 years I will have to start them. Thanks for the giveaway.

  102. My lucky number for baby quilts is 4. I’d like to increase that number though. I love how fast they come together because of their size :) Love the block! Congrats on being included in the publication!! Whoo hoo!

  103. I’ve made at least 12 baby quilts for all my nieces and nephews, two grandchildren and several friends children’s children. I love doing baby quilts because they are relatively small and quick and I like doing bright colors. Congrats on being in the Quiltmaker 100!
