A Giveaway!, Dresden Quilt Workshop Quilt-Along

Are You Gathering Supplies For Dresden Quilt Workshop Quilt-Along Challenge?

It’s less than 3 weeks until the start of my

Dresden Quilt Workshop Quilt-Along

…..Challenge…..

Are you getting ready?

I have some friends that are anxious to start.

Are you?

If you already have your fabrics you could start now by spraying

& ironing all of them with Mary Ellen’s Best Press.

If you look in Dresden Quilt Workshop, pages 9 & 12,

you’ll see why I love it & how I use it.

Next, if you’re using the same fabrics as I did, Jen Kingwell’s Circulus & Lollies Sweet,

(I still have a limited number of fabric kits available on my website)

I suggest you cut a 3″ strip of each of the stripe fabrics.

I did this when I started my quilt and then hung each of them by a tiny hanger so that I could see each of the stripe prints.

I didn’t want to keep using the same print over & over and neglect others.

There are 48 different stripes!

I just happen to have these tiny hangers on the notions page of my website.

I’m all about having fun while I quilt… and a little bit of organization goes a long way!

That should keep you busy for a while

& you’ll become more familiar with all of your fabrics too.

And, you’ll be able to use the 3″ strips in your final border,

so don’t think it’s a waste of fabric.

It’s a win-win!!! Trust me!

And now, would you like to participate in a give-away?

A fabric give-away?

A Moda Fabric give-away?

These are fat 1/8’s (9″ x  22″).

The very talented Lissa Alexander of Moda sent these for me to share with you!

It’s Jen Kingwell’s newest line, Looking Forward, by Moda Fabrics.

Perhaps you’d like to add to this bundle & make a Dresden Quilt Workshop sampler with us?

To be eligible for a chance to win the fat 1/8 bundle,

go to the top of this page

& leave a comment answering one of the reasons or ways that I use Mary Ellen’s Best Press.

(Remember I mentioned above that the info is on pages 9 & 12 in Dresden Quilt Workshop.)

If you don’t have a copy of the book, go get one!

They’re on my website if you local shop doesn’t have them.

I will give you time to comment

at the top of this page!

The drawing will be next week, Wednesday morning.

Go gather!

Just Keep Sewing…

Susan

  1. I’m sorry to say, I have never used Mary Ellen’s Best Press :/ Have heard & read great things about it tho..and why is better to use than regular spray starch. Will definitely be getting some to try! :) Hope I can still have a chance to win your Drawing?

  2. You use the single finger pump bottle because it allows a very fine spray that will evenly coat but no saturate small fabric pieces.

  3. I have been wanting to try making a dresden quilt for a while and I love this quilt!! I just ordered the book and templates and hopefully I’ll be able to get a kit Monday. Do you prewash the fabrics?

    1. I do not prewash my fabric. I use only quilt shop quality fabrics, mostly Moda and I don’t worry about shrinking or fading of color. If you’re worried about either of those I would recommend you prewash. I do find that the Best Press does the preshrinking for me.

  4. Mary Ellen’s Best Press makes it easier to cut and sew your fabric! Love the product!!!

  5. You use Best Press on your fabrics to help it glide through the sewing machine.

  6. I’d love to win these fabrics! (Huge Jen Kingwell fan here) Luckily my book has arrived – so now I know that Mary Ellen’s Best Press adds body to fabric without making it stiff, I will definitely have to try it!

  7. you know i am for anything free. i should use mary ellen’s best press to allow the fabric to glide through my machine so freely. it also adds body to my fabric. it also keeps the bias fabric from fraying and stretching.

  8. One reason you use Best Press is that is it gives fabric body without making it stiff. I totally agree. I used Best Press for a while, and then lazily got away from it. Now, I’m back to using it. I get much better results! My points are cleaner, lines are crisper, I think it keeps the fabric from stretching as I sew and distorting my blocks. Thanks for the giveaway!

  9. You use Best Press to let your fabrics glide through your machine. I want to add that I use Best Press (Linen Fresh variety) because my partner loves the scent and he is glad to buy it because he is crazy about it! Isn’t that funny?

  10. Best Press helps the fabric glide through the sewing machine while sewing and it also gives the fabric more body.

About a month ago I used Best Press for the first time and fell in love with it. It really helps to stabilize the fabric to make cutting easier and more accurate. Also, it smells good and there are no flakes on the fabric after I iron it like I sometimes got when using spray starch or Magic Sizing.

  11. I have never tried Best Press, but I will do so now based on your recommendations. Looking forward to your quilt along and using the techniques in your book. My book and templates arrived in two days. Thank you for the fast service. Selecting my fabric this weekend.

  12. Best Press helps give your fabric or fabric pieces a little more body, to make your sewing smoother! It is not like how ever like regular spray starch products that make fabrics stiff as boards.

  13. I love to use Mary Ellen best press to turn under edges to applique the fabric. Making a crisp fold..

  14. Best Press adds stability without making it stiff. I’ve also found that the center crease in fabric yardage can only be 100% ironed out with Best Press. Nothing else will do the trick without washing. Carol @ Sweet Annies taught me that!

  15. Besides all of the ways everyone uses Best Press, I also use it to soften the wrinkles in batting. I drape the batting across a bed, give it a light spritz, finger comb the wrinkles and let it air dry overnight. Wallah, a wrinkle free batting in the morning!
