I know I’ve mentioned this before, but…

I love the time of year when the early

morning sun shines in my sewing room

windows!

When I woke this morning & the sun was already up,

I knew the task I needed to accomplish would be made better

because I’d be greeted by the sun!

I appreciate the extra light,

but for some reason

the sun shining in my sewing room

just

makes

me

happy!

It doesn’t hurt that I’m also using some

brighter than usual for me fabrics too!

I know we’re pretty far from the longest day of the year already

& soon enough the days will be way too short,

but today I’m excited to have spent a couple of hours

sewing in the sunshine!

Here is a sneak peek

at a new design that I’m working on, shhhhhhhh.

What are you doing on this Labor Day 2019?

I hope you’re doing something fun!

Just Keep Sewing…

Susan

I had a great couple of days with some lovely new quilting friends

from the Ozark Piecemakers Quilt Guild in Springfield, MO last week.

I first met many of these ladies at their guild’s quilt show last September.

My daughter & I had a booth there selling my patterns.

Their quilt show helps support the most incredible

& unusual set-up for a quilt guild that I have ever encountered!

They actually rent a storefront in a strip mall 365 days a year.

Their membership is about 300.

They have two business meetings on the same day each month,

one in the morning & another the same evening for their members that work during the day.

They also have a lot of satellite clubs that meet at different times throughout the month; several charity sewing groups, a Featherweight sewing group, a modern sewing group & a group of strippers for heaven’s sake, lol! And that’s just a small sampling.

I’m telling you, they have it all!!!

They invited me to setup my goodies & speak to both groups.

They have a beautiful “In Between” raffle quilt

shown here behind Vicky’s Bonnie Hunter sew-along quilt.

While on my journey there I was able to stop at a few antique malls

including Relics in Springfield.

It’s huge with lots to see!

I found this cool “hanger” for drying tops.

The interesting part is that it’s adjustable.

I’ll probably hang a quilt or two on it.

Between lectures (with suggestions from my lunch pals)

I was also able to visit The Vintage Peddler.

This place is awesome!

They have lots of lovely, thoughtfully displayed booths.

I found several items that I needed there…

including these HUGE display hangers.

That’s a 30″ wide table that they’re hanging on.

I showed these to some of my new quilt friends during our workshop the next day.

One of them asked what I’m going to do with them…

Hang quilts on them of course!

We laughed that I could hang all 12 of my Tiny Dresden quilts on the two of them; one from each clip.

I could also hang one quilt per hanger:

or…

or I could hang one larger quilt like these between the two hangers…

I also found this metal shelving unit that comes apart to store flat.

I’m always looking for display pieces that are durable

& don’t take up a lot of space for travel purposes

whether for quilt shows or trunk shows & workshops like theirs.

I will for sure be taking this to the Kansas City Quilt Festival in June.

(this is where I initially met some of my Ozark Piecemakers friends

who thankfully persuaded me to join their quilt show last year!)

Perhaps I’ll find a purpose for it in my booth

at Spring Quilt Market in May

which is also being held in Kansas City this year.

We’ll see.

Our workshop was a fun day as well,

with 100% of the quilters successfully completing

at least 1 ore more perfect little Dresden plates!

Look at the smiles & the complete plates.

(Some of them are smiling because they think they tricked me into making their center circles while I demonstrated with my Apliquick Bars, Lol!)

Little do they know I love making them.

I’ll make them for your group too if you invite me to teach a workshop.

You can see my lecture & workshop offerings here.

I hope you are all making more plates.

Please send me pics when you do.

It really is all about having the right tools for the right job.

Thanks new quilting friends!

I hope to see you again soon!

It’s June 14th, Flag Day.

If you start now you could easily have a flag made by July 4th.

I just happen to have some suggestions for flag quilt patterns:

Or a quilt that is reminiscent of a flag…

Perhaps you prefer a quilt that has ready-made flags on it?

Patterns for a little bit of everything don’t you think?

These all just happen to be available on my website ;)

SuznQuilts.com

Look on the

“Quilts”,  “Seasonal Series”, “Tiny Dresden” & “Quilt-as-you-go” pages.

Oh, just check out the entire website.

You might find something else you need too!

Happy Flag Day, &

Just Keep Sewing…flags!

I’ve been really busy these past months using my new fabric line,

Vintage Play by Red Rooster.

Butterflies+24306_mul1

The puppies are available in 2 colorways.

Blue dogs+24310_blu1

Red+dogs+24310_red1

The check print makes a great border!

Checks+24309_mul1

These tossed flowers are available in 2 colorways too.

Cream+Flowers+24311_cre1

The green tossed flowers are good for a background as well.

Green+Flowers+24311_gre1

The tossed numbers read as solids.

They make great applique in 5 colors!

Yellow+Numbers24307_yel1

The road dashes are also in 2 colorways.

Funny thing is, quilters thought they were stitches!

This gives me more ideas…

Black+Road+24308_bla1

In yellow I thought this print would make a great legal pad effect.

Yellow+Road+24308_yel1

You might think it would be hard deciding where to start, but before I even had the fabrics, I designed a free pattern for Red Rooster. After that, the rest just kept coming…

Add-A-Candle+birthday+counter#207+cover+WEBAdd-a-Candle birthday counter.

This is a birthday counter that you add a candle to each year to celebrate a child’s age. I suggest making as many candles as you intend to add to this quilt when you make the quilt so you don’t have to go back each year & make another candle. This is also a good idea to give to mom’s that don’t sew. Just fusing the candles each year will be OK, because you won’t need to wash the quilt.

Measuring+Up+Cover+WEB

Measuring Up!

I designed this to measure children’s height, but at market & festival I think more quilters were interested in buying the pattern so they could hang the quilt in their sewing room!  I didn’t even think of that! Guess where this is going later…

Crooked 9-Patch #122 Cover+web

Crooked 9-Patch is a stack, cut & swap quilt.

It’s actually a revised older pattern of mine that I’ve taught to children at summer camps. It’s quick, easy and as long as you sew a straight seam, the quilt will lay flat!

My+Pencil+Box+WEBMy Pencil Box

is another of my Quilt-as-you-go lap quilt patterns.

In case you’ve not seen my tutorial on this you can see it here.

Quick & easy lap quilts…  my thing!

These next two quilts are traditionally pieced, then handed of to my awesome quilter, Tamara.

Oh+Happy+Daisy#211coverWEBOh Happy Daisy,

also a lap quilt, but with great-big applique!

Out+to+Play#212coverWEB

Out to Play.

This is also a lap quilt with great, big applique.
